In meeting of Diocesan Assembly of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of Northern Europe was decided, Saturday, December 12, 2009, in Sweden, Goteborg, the official registration for bishopric status of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of Northern Europe - in Sweden. The event was attended by delegations of the communities Romanian Orthodox parishes in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway, consist of two laity delegates and priests of every parishes. Meeting - at which decisions were unanimous regarding the registration of bishopric status of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of Northern Europe and Bishop's Counselors appointment - was preceded by a Te Deum religious celebration.
With this occasion, His Grace Macarie, the first bishop of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of Northern Europe has announced a number of cultural initiatives, founding "North Candle" magazine and establishment of "North Cross" distinction to be awarded for honors by Northern Europe Romanian Orthodox Episcopate
Event held in Goteborg is very important for the cultural and spiritual life of the Orthodox Romanians living in Scandinavia. Diocesan council decision at Goteborg does the establishment of new official relationships bases between the Romanian Orthodox Church and Sweden.
